Originally released onto Steam ‘s early access program in November as the game was fully released in March under the name AirMech Strike, and additionally released a version on the Xbox , Xbox One and PlayStation 4 under the name AirMech Arena. The game revolves around the player controlling their AirMech directly and then building units to assist in achieving whatever the goal of the game mode is.
The player can build units and pick them up and can place them down on the battlefield to take part in the battle. The fortress spawns creeps which are infantry units that can capture outposts. Outposts are buildings that can heal AirMechs and units if they are picked up. Players can unlock units, pilots and AirMechs with ingame currency called kudos, which are earned after each match is completed. Players also gain persistent XP on completion of matches. The player can unlock various units as their level increases.
Alternatively, players can purchase diamonds which can unlock units and cosmetics. Players have one resource to manage, which is known as credits. Credits are generated by the fortress and every outpost the player owns. Different units require a certain amount of credits to be built. Players can also build special units called money makers to generate more credits.

With the free-to-play model blowing up on the PC, raking in huge amounts of cash by way of microtransactions, the consoles were sure to follow sooner or later. Towers also function rather differently. Instead of actively trying to destroy any towers in their path, Happy Warriors are working to build their own, where they can then spawn.
But perhaps the biggest change – and the most detrimental – is the simplification of classes. The melee-focused Warrior, the healing and support Cleric, and the ranged damage Mage. Each class is fairly simple to play, even with some clunkiness with ranged attacks, but the lack of variation leads to matches feeling all too familiar after a few rounds. Strategies are often thrown to the wind in favor of every class just pounding the attack button and hoping to kill their enemies before dying.
With thirty players going at it at any given point, often fighting over a single contested tower, things can get confusing fast. More often than not, I found myself in the middle of a flurry of spells and attacks, unable to see my character and just flailing away in a vain attempt to complete the objective. For a multiplayer game, the best way to get players to continue to play is to focus on creating depth along with accessibility.
Happy Wars fails to do so. But it gets old very quickly. Without mechanics that allow for depth, multiplayer very quickly turns to a borefest.
